Washingtonia robusta is original from the Mexican and the Californian Pacific coast. It is planted in great numbers in the Gulf of Mexico countries and all mild climates. The bright green palmate leaves measure 1.5 m and are divided into many narrow coriaceae folds.

This palm tree is native to California and widely planted as an ornament in parks, big gardens and avenues in the remaining hot zones in the Americas. It can be differentiated from other palm trees because of its dead leave ‘skirt’ around its trunk and underneath its top as well as for the plain bark without any fibrous matter.
